Chapter Six

He was curled around her and licking the mark when she regained her senses. She moved slowly, and he growled, but it was a happy sound.

“What day is it?” Her voice was hoarse.

“This is the third day. I believe it is a Thursday. I am not willing to let you go to check my com.”

She ached. Every inch of her felt bruised and sensitive. Her head thudded back to the bed. Tears started to trickle from her eyes. She had never been in one form for so long. She shifted to get away from the discomfort in her body. That hadn’t been an option.

He licked the tears from her cheeks. “Sore?”

She nodded. “It all hurts.”

He stroked her cheek and ran a hand down her arm before wrapping his arm around her waist. “We will have a bath, and then, you will feel better.”

She grunted. “You go ahead. I will be there in a few hours.”

He gripped her tight and rolled until he carried her with one arm around her waist. “You are funny.”

“It stops me from crying.”

The bath was high, and the mist curled gently. Brit muttered, “How did that happen?”

“Remote in the bedside table. It’s handy.”

He swung her up, and she grunted as he walked down steps into the bath that could double as a hot tub.

He slowly sat, and she flinched as parts of her that she could only describe as raw were immersed in the warm water.

She remained tense against him for several minutes before she relaxed. Flashes of the previous few days began to seep into her consciousness. She slapped a hand to her throat and felt for signs of his teeth. He liked to hold her neck a lot.

“I healed all the marks, though it would have been very pretty to leave them.” He stroked a hand under her hair. “I understand that my aesthetic may not be yours.”

She whimpered and leaned into his grip. Fuck. She was getting wet again. She didn’t think it was possible, but the invitation came slick and fast.

“But, your response is wonderful.” He chuckled wickedly. “I have been blessed with a very responsive mate. I thank you for taking such good care of yourself over the years. I would have been poorer for it if you had not entered my life.”

“And Ylara would have been super sore.” She grunted as he palmed her throat.

“She’s better off with Riithan. He’s charming with a lot of patience.”

“Wait. She chose Riithan?”

“Yes, the woman on crutches made him choose. Shavore has her in his care. She is recovering from her injuries.”

She shivered. Sabine’s injuries had been brutal and had hobbled her. It was possibly the only way even an alpha could get the drop on her.

“The timing sucked.”

He nuzzled her and licked at her ear as they sank lower into the water. “How so?”

“If she had been healed, he wouldn’t have gotten near her.”

“Ah, like if you had been faster, you would have gotten away?” He chuckled. “That puncture on your foot dropped you into my grasp.
